TV personality Sherri Shepard speaks about divorce

As many people in Illinois know, Sherri Shepard, co-host of the popular television show The View, recently filed for divorce from her husband of three years. She recently spoke about having to move on and keep going forward. She stated that having good friends around her has been very helpful. The couple also is expecting a child this summer via a surrogate. Shepard is seeking full legal and physical custody of the child.

Many people in Illinois find themselves going through the same emotions as Shepard as they deal with the end of a marriage. It can be a very difficult time to deal with, but there are still many important decisions that must be made when one is going through a divorce. It is easy to let the emotions get the best of a person, but it is important to keep a level head during the process.

For those with children, the couple must decide who will have child custody or whether the couple will share custody. They will also have to determine child support and possibly alimony. In addition to that, they must also divide their assets.

This can be more difficult for people in Shepard's position, who have many assets such as various properties, bank accounts and other investments, which must be valued and then divided. Often times professionals such as business appraisers and property appraisers must be utilized to determine the value of the various assets. This can take some time depending on the amount of the couple's assets.

Many people go through divorce each year in Illinois. This can be a very emotional time, but important decisions must be made. It can also potentially be a long process if the couple owns many assets. Understanding the legal complexities of a divorce can be very important to help ensure a person is getting a fair asset division. Likewise, when children are involved, the parents must focus their legal efforts on securing the best interests of the children.
