Indianapolis Colts owner won't testify in custody case

Many NFL fans in Illinois may be aware that the Indianapolis Colts owner, Jim Irsay, was charged and convicted of driving under the influence this past summer. There were many pills found in his car as well as $29,000 in cash. Well apparently that incident caused him to become involved in his daughter's child custody case.

He was subpoenaed by his daughter's ex-husband to testify in a bench trial. The ex-husband stated earlier that he did not want his children around the type of behavior portrayed by Irsay when he was arrested. Apparently Irsay's daughter was living in a house close to where the incident occurred. However, the case recently settled and therefore Irsay will not need to testify.

Many parents in Illinois are going through divorces and have children. It can be a very difficult time for both the parents and the children as they deal with the split. Despite the difficult circumstances, important decisions regarding the children must be made by the parents and orders regarding child custody must be issued.

Ultimately child custody orders are based on what is in the best interests of the child. When determining this, many factors are assessed. These factors include, but are not limited to, the child's wishes if they are old enough, the mental and physical conditions of each parent, the child's adjustment to schools, their relationships with others in each parent's home and many others. While there are many factors that could be used, each custody case is unique and only the relevant factors will be analyzed.

Many times parents are able to reach an agreement between themselves after mediations or negotiations. However, if they are not able to reach an agreement, a judge will ultimately make the decision for them.

Divorces in Illinois can be difficult to handle especially when children are involved. However, despite the difficulties, a child custody arrangement must be determined. Experienced attorneys understand child custody and may be useful resources as one deals with custody of a child.
