The Terms “Child Custody” and “Visitation” Are Non-Existent Under Illinois Law

Did you know that the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act no longer includes the terms “child custody” or “visitation”? When detailing these areas, Illinois law refers to “child custody” as “parental responsibility” and refers to “visitation” as “parenting time”. These changes were initiated back in 2016.
